ROCKINGHAM, N.C. — Brandon McReynolds passed Kyle Grissom with less than 10 laps left to complete a season sweep of the UARA-STARS Late Model Series events at Rockingham Speedway Saturday morning.
Brennan Poole started from the pole and led the first 13 laps before Kyle Grissom moved into the lead one lap after a lap-14 restart. McReynolds, who started fourth, moved into second a few laps later.
McReynolds chased Grissom throughout the rest of the race, making several attempts to take the lead before two consecutive caution flags reset the field. McReynolds made his move following the second restart on lap 67, taking the lead as he and Grissom came out of turn four. He led the rest of the way at the one-mile asphalt oval.
“It was a good run. I don’t think we were near as dominant as we were in the spring,” McReynolds said. “I think it just goes to show how important clean air is because once we got out in front of the 32 (Grissom) we could take off.”
Grissom finished second ahead of Poole, Robert Johnson III and Coleman Pressley, who topped Poole to win the series championship.
