ANDERSON – Ohio driver Cody Coughlin finished off a hectic week by winning the Pic-A-Part 100 for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour at Anderson Speedway on Saturday.

Coughlin raced in the Redbud 300 for super late models on July 16, in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race on Wednesday at Eldora Speedway and in the ARCA/CRA Super Series race at Lucas Oil Raceway on Friday.

Coughlin was able to pass his crew chief Jack Smith with 30 laps remaining and then survived two restarts to record his second win of the year and extend his points lead over Smith.

Smith led the first 69 laps before Coughlin, the fast qualifier, was able to slip inside coming off the second corner on the 70th circuit.

Coughlin had to survive a final restart on lap 86 after Austin Kunert spun on the front straight while running sixth.
The red flag waved for a second time for fluids around the racing surface and just prior to the restart Smith pulled into the infield pit area with a rear end breakage.

From there Coughlin was challenged for a few laps by Scott Tomasik but eventually pulled away to win by 1.5-seconds with Dan Leeck, Phil Bozell and Kunert rounding out the top five.

“It was cool,” Coughlin said of racing with Smith. “We wanted to have a one-two finish. This is a great team that makes my job easier.”

Tomasik said Coughlin’s car was better on the long runs in the race.

“He (Coughlin) had a rocket ship on the long runs,” the Indiana driver said. “We were good on the short runs.”
Leeck, who started 14th in the field, was happy with his third place finish.

“To be able to bring it home with a little damage, we’ll take it,” he said. “I want to thank CRA for coming to Anderson, this place rocks.”

Smith jumped into the lead following the inversion of the fast six qualifiers and opened a comfortable margin as Hope Hornish and Tomasik led a train of cars.

Hornish got high in turn three on the 21st circuit which allowed Tomasik, Jack Dossey III, Brandon Oakley and Coughlin to slip past.

Coughlin moved into the second spot on lap 45 with an inside pass of Tomasik entering turn three and closed rapidly on Smith when the second caution flag waved.

There were six caution periods, two red flags during the race. Smith and Coughlin were the only lap leaders swapping the point three times.

Coughlin set a new track record for the CRA/JEGS All Stars Tour with a lap of 12.178-seconds during qualifying breaking the mark set by Bubba Pollard in 2013 at 12.231-seconds.
