ASHEBORO, N.C. – Max McLaughlin claimed his first victory in a tour-type modified on Saturday, winning the annual running of the North-South Shootout at Caraway Speedway.
Driving Gary Putnam’s No. 77, McLaughlin held off a challenge from Patrick Emerling in the final 10 laps to pick up the victory that was worth $7,500. The victory came in McLaughlin’s second start in a tour-type modified.
Austin Kochenash finished third, followed by Bobby Measmer Jr. and Craig Lutz.
In other action, Carson Kvapil bested veteran Brandon Setzer to top the 150-lap super late model main event. Kvapil took the lead for the final time on the 145th circuit and led the final five laps to take the victory.
Justin Crider, Kyle Desouza and Tyler Church were third through fifth, respectively.
Other winners Saturday included Robert Strmiska (mini stocks), Tony Black (limited/challenger), Riley Neal (602 super limited) and James Civali (602 modifieds).
