WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. — For the first time, Dirt Track Digest TV, a SPEED SPORT Network affiliate, is heading to the Garden State for an event at Wall Stadium Speedway.

The historic Jersey Shore asphalt oval is slated to make-up the 2020 edition of Turkey Derby XLVIII on Saturday, March 2 and the DTD TV cameras will be there to cover all the action.

Featuring some of the best in asphalt modified racing, Turkey Derby always brings the stars of the division to the speedway.  Some notable past winners include New Jersey ace Jimmy Blewett, former Race of Champions series title holder Matt Hirschman, NASCAR Cup Series regular Ryan Preece, Jamie Tomaino, Martin Truex Sr., John Blewett, John Blewett Sr. and George Kent.

A large field is expected with this event officially kicking off the northeastern season for the asphalt modifieds. Entries are expected to include the best of the best from all over New England and the East Coast as competitors look to start the new season on a high note.

Among the notable modified drivers who have pre-entered for the event are Hirschman, Blewett, Andy Jankowiak, Danny Bohn, Tyler Truex, Doug Coby and Anthony Sesely.

Saturday’s program includes full programs for the TQ Midgets and limited late models but is highlighted by the tour-type modified division.

Traditionally run the Friday and Saturday following Thanksgiving, the first Turkey Derby was won by Gil Hearne in 1974. The event had been run every year since until the pandemic forced postponement of last year’s race until this weekend.

The mighty modifieds will race 150-laps of the third-mile track with $6,000 earmarked for the feature winner. Qualifying action begins at 12:30pm with feature action slated for 3 p.m.

Dirt Track Digest TV cameras go live with qualifying at noon featuring knowledgeable weekly track announcers calling the action. Multiple camera angles are being prepared to cover all the action of this short track extravaganza. The event can be purchased for just $31.99.
