MOORESVILLE, N.C. – Austin Wayne Self will contests the full ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule in 2014 for Cunningham Motorsports.
Self will pilot the No. 22 Dodge with Chad Bryant serving as his crew chief.
“I am super excited to be driving the No. 22 Cunningham Dodge,” said the Austin, Texas native. “We had a great 2013 season and we’re ready to kick 2014 off strong. I am honored to have this opportunity and I am looking forward to moving towards my goals this season.”
Cunningham Motorsports is the official driver development team for Penske Racing. Self will compete for the SCOTT Rookie Challenge in 2014 as well as the ARCA Racing Series championship.
“Austin showed us this year what he is capable of, with some really good finishes,” Bryant said. “We are looking forward to working with him in 2014, and hoping to get even better results.”
The Cunningham organization has fielded cars for three of the past five ARCA Series Rookies of the Year. All three drivers are currently running in NASCAR — Parker Kligerman and Alex Bowman in the Nationwide Series and Dakoda Armstrong in the Camping World Truck Series.
“We are thrilled to have Austin back with us for the 2014 season,” said Cunningham Motorsports co-owner Kerry Scherer. “We intend to compete for the championship and fully expect Austin to have a great year.”
In his abbreviated 2013 ARCA season at Cunningham Motorsports, Self scored five top-10 finishes in only six starts, including a fourth place finish at Berlin Raceway and a career best of second at Winchester Speedway, a race that he was named the SCOTT Rookie of the Race.
