TOLEDO, Ohio – Brennan Poole still has his eye on the big prize – the 2012 ARCA Racing Series national championship. Currently third in points overall, he trails current point leader Chris Buescher by 175 points with just two races remaining in ARCA’s 60th Anniversary Season.
While his championship possibilities may seem like a long shot, there are other accolades well within his grasp, including ARCA’s prestigious Hoosier Tire Superspeedway Challenge title, which will be decided in the Kansas Lottery 98.9, the season finale at Kansas Speedway October 19.
“We’re still going after the main championship, and still believe we can accomplish that main goal,” Poole said. “We know we’ll need some help from Chris Buescher and Frank Kimmel, and then we’ll need near perfect days at DuQuoin and Kansas. If we run well at both, we’ll just let it all fall where it will fall.
“If we’re not able to win the overall title, the Superspeedway championship would be a great title to have in your hip pocket.”
Poole currently leads in the pursuit of the Hoosier Tire Superspeedway Challenge Championship by 95 points over Kimmel. If the recent test at Kansas is an indicator of Poole’s chances of winning ARCA’s superspeedway title, then The Woodlands, Texas, rookie is completely in the driver’s seat.
“We were actually fastest in the morning and afternoon sessions (at Kansas). We ran really well. The car was well balanced, and I know my guys on this Venturini Motorsports crew will put me in a position to, not only run up front, but to win.
“We’ve been good all year on the speedways, winning at Pocono, we’ve had some second place finishes, some poles. I’m really excited to get to Kansas just because it’s a speedway, and we have a lot of fun on those tracks.
“The new pavement at Kansas is incredible. It’s got so much grip and it’s just really, really smooth. I think the cars will be moving around a lot through the corners trying to find that magic spot. It’s going to be a lot of fun to watch, and a lot of fun to drive.
“We need to finish up strong, and if we do, we’ll win that Superspeedway title. It would definitely be a special thing to win. It shows you’re the best on the superspeedways, and considering all the speedways that ARCA races on, that says a lot.”
The Hoosier Tire Superspeedway Challenge title consists of race points accumulated on all of ARCA’s Superspeedway venues, including Daytona, Talladega, Pocono, Michigan, Chicagoland and Kansas.
Former Hoosier Tire Superspeedway Challenge champions include Davey Allison, Bill Venturini, Bob Keselowski, Jeff Purvis, Tim Steele, Kimmel, and Buescher, to name a few.
