SALEM, Ind. – The ARCA/CRA Super Series powered by JEGS will head to Berlin Raceway in Marne, Mich., for this Saturday’s Tri-State Collector Car Appraising 125 presented by T.A.A.G. Tooling.
Saturday’s race will be the 16th ARCA/CRA Super Series event that the tricky seven-sixteenths-mile facility has hosted. Berlin has always been known for its talented local drivers and very knowledgeable and passionate race fans. As usual Saturday’s event will pit the best from the ARCA/CRA Super Series against the best local drivers from Berlin’s Budweiser Super Late Model Division.
This will be a great opportunity for the ARCA/CRA Super Series teams to get some racing at Berlin prior to the Berlin 251 on June 15, which will now pay $15,000 to win plus lap money and is the first leg in the JEGS/CRA $100,000 Super Late Model Triple Crown.
Topping the list of entries for Saturday’s event is local sensation Brian Campbell, who has competed on and off with the ARCA/CRA Super Series the last four years. Campbell, from nearby Wyoming, Mich., has now topped his father Fred with the most ARCA/CRA Super Series victories at Berlin with four after his victory in this event last season. Fred Campbell is in second with three series wins at Berlin.
Top CRA regulars who are entered include Kenny Tweedy, Travis Braden, Rick Turner, Joe Beaver, Jay Niewiek, Nick Gullatta, Kyle Jones and three time series Champion Johnny VanDoorn, winner of the series season opener at Toledo Speedway. All the top Boyne Machine Rookie of the Year candidates are entered including Ali Kern and 15 year old Anderson Bowen, who are tied for the series rookie points lead after two events and Brandon Oakley.
17-year-old Cody Coughlin, the 2011 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Howie Lettow Rookie of the Year Presented by Howe Racing, is set to make his ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS debut on Saturday. Coughlin will be competing for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour season Championship this season and sees Saturday’s event as a way to get extra laps before that series June 14th event at Berlin. Former full time JEGS Tour competitor Brandon Hermiller is also entered, he will be running in selected ARCA/CRA Super Series event during the 2013 season.
Several top local drivers are entered including former Berlin CRA event winners Ross Meeuwsen, winner of Berlin’s 2013 Budweiser Super Late Model season opener, and Tom Thomas and Terry Van Haitsma. Also entered are Tim DeVos, Chris Anthony, Seth Moody, Lauren Bush, Lee VanDyk, Josh Hobson and former ASA Racing Series competitor Dave Sensiba in a team car to Jay Niewiek.
Canadian racer Jordan Sims is entered along with Hinckley, Ohio’s Matt Tifft, who was the ARCA Midwest Tour 2012 Rookie of the Year and is competing in selected NASCAR K&N Pro Series events also during the 2013 season.
