WEEDSPORT, N.Y. — Jessica Zemken scored her third-straight Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints triumph Sunday at Cayuga County Fair Speedway thanks to Steve Poirier’s bad luck.
Poirier, a two-time series champion, led the first 20 laps and had the field covered before suddenly exiting the speedway with engine troubles. Zemken led the final five laps to score her fifth victory this year.
“Steve (Poirier) had the race won. We were fast, but I wasn’t going to catch him,” Zemken said.
Jason Barney was second ahead of two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Tony Stewart, who owns Zemken’s car, Justin Barger and Bryan Howland.
