PORT ROYAL, Pa. – The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series concludes its battle with the Pennsylvania Posse this weekend at Port Royal Speedway.
A Posse driver hasn’t won an Outlaw race at Port Royal since 2014 when Kunkletown native Ryan Smith scored a popular win.Â
Interestingly enough, the Posse have had six different drivers run second in the last six races, a streak the contingent wants to break this weekend.
In 2016, Greg Hodnett finished second to Logan Schuchart. In 2017, Lance Dewease was bested by Donny Schatz. In 2018 and ‘19, Schatz again pulled through, respectively defeating Freddie Rahmer and Anthony Macri.
Last year, Kyle Larson turned back Danny Dietrich and Brent Marks in both main events Friday and Saturday.
Beyond Brad Sweet’s commanding points lead, other positions in the points fund are worth following.
Last weekend, Schuchart used a pair of second-place finishes to overtake Sheldon Haudenschild for the fifth spot in points, which will pay $50,000 at the end of the season.
In front of them, Carson Macedo (-142) used his National Open title to narrow the margin to Gravel (-128) in a battle for the runner-up position.
Second in the standings awards $100,000, while third hands out $60,000. Gravel and Macedo have never cracked the top two in the points in their careers.
As the season comes to a close, here’s a statistical overview through 70 of 77 races.
