CONCORD, N.C. — All Star sprint car champion Zeb Wise took a wild ride on the first lap of Thursday night’s opening heat race during the World of Outlaws World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.
Wise’s car tangled with the No. 18 of Ryan Roberts and flipped wildly exiting turn four. The throttle appeared to hang open on the Rudeen Racing mount and spun Wise in circles for nearly 30 seconds before the car came to a rest.
The safety crew extricated the 11-time feature winner this season from his car and the 20-year-old Angola, Ind. native was checked out in the ambulance and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
Wise was examined and released. He returned to the track later in the night and spoke with DIRTVision announcers.
“They did their routine check up on me an my head. I’m OK,” Wise said. “I’m kind of sore, walking around like a board, but I am thankful to the World of Outlaws and everyone here at the track for taking care of me.
“I remember all of it, which is better than my crash at Eldora. I don’t know if I liked it better than not remembering it.”
