KNOXVILLE, Iowa — Gio Scelzi continued his recent hot streak at Knoxville Raceway by becoming the top point earner on the opening night of the 60th NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals.
Scelzi qualified second, transferred through his heat race and raced from eighth to finish second in the 25-lap feature to earn 487 points on Wednesday night.
Scelzi, who drives the KCP Racing No. 18, also won last week’s 360 Knoxville Nationals at the half-mile track at the Marion County Fairgrounds.

David Gravel, who won the main event, racked 475 points to rank third. Logan Schuchart and fast-qualifier Brooke Tatnell each raced through the B main and ended the night fourth and fifth in points. Schuchart tallied 472 markers, with Tatnell checking in at 460.
The second five in the standings after one night were James McFadden (459), Justin Henderson (458), Justin Peck (458), Danny Dietrich (449) and Josh Baughman (447).
Sheldon Haudenschild was 13th after the first night at 428 points and stood a very good chance of having to run Friday’s Hard Knox qualifying program.
