Based on sources in the pit area, it is expected that on Saturday Daryn Pittman will be named driver of the No. 9 Kasey Kahne Racing entry for the 2013 season. Pittman is here this weekend driving the No. 49 Kasey Kahne Racing sprint-car.
It was announced earlier this year that Joey Saldana, who has earned 77 victories while driving for KKR, would be released from his contract following the conclusion of the 2012 season. He has not yet announced plans for 2013.
3:35 p.m. – Associate Editor Adam Fenwick checking in here at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway. I’ve already walked the pit area to check out who is here. The sprint-car pits are packed full of cars, with several interesting names. ASCS regulars Jason Johnson and Wayne Johnson are both here, not to mention lots of members of the Pennsylvania Posse.
Down in the combined big-block/late-model pits, several drivers will be pulling double duty. Tim McCreadie and Billy Decker will be racing in both the big-block and late-model races, as expected. We heard several teams had a hard time getting here from the Northeast thanks to Hurricane Sandy, but most have made it here despite the bad weather.
They are working in the track now. Super DIRTcar Series hot laps are set to begin at 5 p.m., so I’m going back down to the pits to talk to a few drivers before on-track action begins.
