TULARE, Calif. — West Coast sprint car driver Michael “Buddy” Kofoid plans to make his World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series debut this weekend at Merle Stone Chevrolet Thunderbowl Raceway.
Kofoid will drive the Van Dyke Motorsports No. 5h. Kofoid, who has plenty of experience at Thunderbowl including a preliminary night victory during the 2016 Trophy Cup, is now eligible to compete with the World of Outlaws after turning 16 during the offseason.
“I’m really excited to run my first World of Outlaws races this weekend in Tulare,” Kofoid said. “Last year being too young made it tough to sit on the sidelines and miss the shows in California when they were here, but now having the opportunity to compete with the Outlaws is going to great. Thunderbowl Raceway is a fun race track and usually has multiple grooves to run, so I can’t wait until Friday.”
Car owner Harley Van Dyke also spoke about the weekend.
“It’s going to be great to get Buddy his first laps with the World of Outlaws this Friday and Saturday,” he said. “Thunderbowl Raceway is one of the challenging tracks we have out here, but it almost always puts on an exciting show. Competing with the Outlaws is never easy and there should be a great field of cars on hand, but we definitely look forward to seeing where we stack up.”
