Knoxville Nationals Begin With BRANDT Qualifying Night

KNOXVILLE, Iowa — The 60th running of the NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals will kick off on Wednesday night at Knoxville Raceway with a trio of former winners scheduled to compete.

Headlining the group is 10-time Knoxville Nationals victor Donny Schatz. Schatz will drive the familiar No. 15 Tony Stewart Racing entry as he chases his first Nationals triumph since 2017.

David Gravel, who won the most recent running of the event in 2019, will chase his second victory in the sport’s most prestigious race aboard Tod Quiring’s Big Game Motorsports No. 2. Gravel is already off to a good start, having won Sunday night’s Capitani Classic at the half-mile dirt track.

Finally, Tim Shaffer, who won the 50th Knoxville Nationals in 2010, will pilot the familiar Grove No. 28 sprint car. Shaffer earned a $20,000 victory at West Virginia Motor Speedway this past weekend.

Sheldon Haudenschild, who has won seven World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series features this year, including a sweep of this past weekend’s Ironman 55 card at Missouri’s Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55, drives the Stenhouse-Marshall No. 17.

Gio Scelzi, who won last weekend’s 360 Knoxville Nationals, handles the familiar KPC Racing No. 18.

World of Outlaws travelers Logan Schuchart, James McFadden, Wayne Johnson and Jason Sides are also scheduled for Wednesday.

All Star Circuit of Champions regulars Spencer Bayston, Zeb Wise, Hunter Schuerenberg, Justin Peck, Cory Eliason and Kyle Reinhardt, who won rookie of the year honors in the 360 Knoxville Nationals also highlight the field.

Knoxville Raceway regulars Justin Henderson, Terry McCarl, Mark Dobmeier and Parker Price-Miller and Pennsylvania Posse drivers Danny Dietrich, Lucas Wolfe and Anthony Macri also hit the track Wednesday. Six-time All Star champion Chad Kemenah will grip the wheel of Troy Renfro’s Iowa-based No. 2ks.
