KNOXVILLE, Iowa – After a stout run during the Knoxville Nationals, Roth Motorsports officials have announced that Kasey Kahne will pilot the team’s No. 83 entry with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series for the rest of the season.
Kahne replaces Aaron Reutzel in the No. 83. Reutzel was recently suspended by World of Outlaws officials for an attempt to circumvent the sanctioning body’s inspection process. Reutzel later confirmed he had departed the team.
“We have always had a great relationship with Kasey Kahne, and we are excited to have him finish out the season for us with the World out Outlaws,” team owner Dennis Roth said. “When he was a young man, he did a great job driving for us, and when Kasey Kahne Racing housed a Roth Motorsports car for us in the mid 2000’s they represented us very well. This past week, he is coming off of a really nice job at the Knoxville Nationals in what was a last-minute arrangement for us.”
Having success with Roth Motorsports in the early 2000’s, Kahne returned to the seat for the Central California based team in May during the Peter Murphy Classic in California.
Kahne was planning to run a Kasey Kahne Racing entry at last week’s Knoxville Nationals, but after Reutzel was suspended the team offered the seat to Kahne. He shined, earning quick time honors during his qualifying night and backing it up with an eighth-place finish in Saturday’s 50-lap A-Main.
Kahne will work with crew chief Grant Boyum to finish out the season for the team.
“I am really excited and thankful for the opportunity that Dennis and Teresa Roth are providing me to race with a great team for the last quarter of the season,” Kasey Kahne said. “It’ll be really fun, and challenging, going to some new places as we work hard to run up front every night with the World of Outlaws. We had a great trip to Knoxville, and I am looking forward to getting back to it and really getting started this weekend.”
