KOKOMO, Ind. — Four different drivers shared the lead seven times in Wednesday night’s World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series 40-lap feature at Kokomo Speedway before Tim Kaeding finally edged Shane Stewart to win his fifth race of the season.
For Kaeding, it wasn’t the third time that was the charm, but the fourth at the quarter-mile bullring. Kaeding led the opening circuit of the 40-lap A-main, Jason Sides led the second lap, Kaeding went back in front on lap three, Shane Stewart then took over for the next eight laps before Kaeding again moved to the point after 13 laps and led another six before turning it over to Kyle Larson.
Larson started to take control, but then he found trouble navigating through traffic and made contact with a car he was trying to lap, dropping him back through the field and again moving Kaeding to the front on lap 33. From that point to the checkered flag Kaeding maintained the lead, although Stewart closed quickly and cut the margin of victory to only .18 seconds.
