BEAVER DAM, Wis. — Sheldon Haudenschild proved to be relentless at Beaver Dam Speedway.
After wiring the field in Friday night’s 35-lap World of Outlaws feature, Haudenschild raced past early pacesetter Spencer Bayston on the 13th round in Saturday night’s 40-lap Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial and proceeded to cruise on to his seventh series win of the year aboard the NOS Energy Drink No. 17 Sprint Car.
While Haudenschild took command prior to the midway point, Jacob Allen moved into second and kept the pressure on for a while before fading as Donny Schatz made a late rally to snare runner-up honors with Logan Schuchart filling out the podium in third.
It was only a caution on the final lap when Brad Sweet got turned around on the backstretch that created stress for Haudenschild.
“I thought somehow it was gonna slip away when that caution came out on the last lap, but sure enough, we got it done tonight,” Haudenschild explained. “I was ripping the top really good so I figured as long as I got a good start and didn’t push through turns one and two, I would be fine.”
Little need for worry as Haudenschild finished the deal as eighth-starter Schatz raced past both Shark teammates Allen and Schuchart on the green-white-checkered to the stripe to claim second.
“We got really good after about five or ten laps and I can’t compliment this new motor from Ron Shaver enough,” Schatz said. “We’ve been trying different things and now we’ve got something that works exceptionally well with my right foot.”
Schuchart claimed the podium position, explaining that, “It’s better than what we’ve done in the past here, so I’m happy about that.”
After leading the initial dozen rounds, Bayston was fourth with David Gravel earning Hard Charger honors by racing from 13th to fifth.
