Pennsylvania driver Tim Shaffer won the 50th anniversary Knoxville Nationals in 2011. Shaffer has enjoyed a stellar season aboard the Rudzik Racing No. 49, winning with both the World of Outlaws and the All Star Circuit of Champions. Shaffer was fast on Thursday, coming from 21st to finish sixth. It will be his 16th Nationals feature.
