PUTNAMVILLE, Ind. – An uncharacteristically off night for Chris Windom Thursday at Lincoln Park Speedway threw the doors wide open on the USAC Indiana Midget Week points race.
Windom, who finished 13th after suffering a flat right-rear tire early in the 30-lap feature at the five-sixteenths-mile dirt oval, lost the Indiana Midget Week lead to runner-up Daison Pursley.
Pursley hasn’t finished worse than ninth through six races and carries a slim one-point advantage over Windom into the penultimate round of the eight-race mini-series Friday at Gas City I-69 Speedway.
Behind Windom, Buddy Kofoid also clawed his way back into Indiana Midget Week contention as well, finishing fourth and moving to third place, within three points of the lead with two races remaining.
Both Pursley and Kofoid are hoping to deliver USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget Series powerhouse Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports a sixth Indiana Midget Week title this season.
Fourth in the Indiana Midget Week standings is Logan Seavey, the Lawrenceburg Speedway winner who is just 11 points back of the top spot, with Kevin Thomas Jr. filling out the top five in the order.
Thomas is 39 points off of Pursley’s leading total and would need a major shakeup over the next two nights to have any sort of realistic shot at the IMW championship.
USAC Indiana Midget Week continues Friday with round seven at Gas City (Ind.) I-69 Speedway. Hot laps kick off at 6 p.m. ET, with heat races scheduled for approximately 7:30 p.m. ET.
