INDIANAPOLIS — Kody Swanson (Silver Crown), Henry Clarke (National Sprint Car) and Zach Daum (National Midget) have been selected by USAC as the top rookies in each of USAC’s three National divisions.
They will be honored Jan. 8 during USAC’s Night of Champions National Awards Dinner in downtown Indianapolis.
Swanson, a California native, finished fifth in the standings during his first season in USAC’s K&N Silver Crown Series. His best finishes were a second at Phoenix Int’l Raceway and a third at Iowa Speedway. Swanson won USAC’s Western Sprint Car Championship in 2005 and was also the rookie of the year in that series the same year.
Clarke, also a California native, posted seven top-10 finishes on his way to 12th place in the final National Sprint Car Series standings. Among his season highlights was his impressive drive at the Belleville Midget Nationals, where he nearly won the championship.
Daum, of Pocahontas, Ill., finished 10th in the Mopar National Midget standings after earning four top-10 finishes this season. He matched that effort in USAC’s K&N Silver Crown Series as well, also finishing 10th in the standings.
Other USAC Rookie of the Year Award winners include Luis Ramos III (Western Sprint Car), Austin Williams (USAC/CRA), Alex Schutte (Western Midget), Jimmy Simpson (Midwest and UMARA Ford Focus), Jeremy Frankoski (Carolina Ford Focus), Michael Daniels (Utah Ford Focus), Nik Romano (California Pavement Ford Focus) and Sean-Mikael Dodenhoff (California Dirt Ford Focus).
