BECHTELSVILLE, Pa. – Midget racing will return to Grandview Speedway next year as part of the Thunder on the Hill series.
The USAC P1 Insurance National Midget Series will kick off its annual Eastern Swing with a visit to the third-mile dirt oval on Tuesday, July 30. They’ll be joined on the card by the NASCAR 358 modified division.
The USAC Midget will compete in a 35-lap feature while the 358 modifieds will race for 30 laps. Gates will open at 5 p.m. with race time set for 7:30 p.m.
Midget racing was last a part of the Thunder on the Hill series at Grandview in 2015, when Tim Buckwalter visited victory lane.
Midgets have competed at Grandview under several different sanctioning bodies. The UMRC Midgets sanctioned the first midget event at Grandview in 1965, which was won by Don Kreitz Sr. Since then SMRC, AOM, ARDC and USAC have all sanctioned midget racing at Grandview. There have also been two non-sanctioned midget races.
The USAC P1 Insurance National Midget Series has raced at Grandview twice in co-sanctioned events with ARDC. Rich Vogler won the first race in 1988 while Russ Gamester scored the other victory in 1989.
