Mitchell Nips Roa In West Coast Battle

WATSONVILLE, Calif. – Matt Mitchell drove by Brody Roa on the final lap to win Friday’s USAC West Coast Sprint Car Series and USAC Western Classic Sprint Car Series combination event at Ocean Speedway.

Roa had the dominant car for much of the evening at the quarter-mile dirt oval, taking the lead on the opening circuit. He briefly gave up the lead on lap 14 to Ryan Bernal, but took the lead back one lap later.

It looked like things were going Roa’s way, but Mitchell had other ideas. Mitchell waited until the final lap in the 30-lap event, snatching the lead away from Roa and claiming the victory for himself.

Roa settled for second, followed by Richard Vander Weerd, Marty Hawkins and Bernal.

The finish:

Matt Mitchell, Brody Roa, Richard Vander Weerd, Marty Hawkins, Ryan Bernal, Nic Faas, Austin Liggett, Jace Vander Weerd, Kyler Shaw, Jeff Sibley, Bruce Douglass, Tyler Schmidt, Trevor Schmid, Markus Niemela, Tim DeCarlo Jr., Austin Stone, Scott Hall, Koen Shaw, Landon Hurst, Danny Faria Jr., Kevin Barnes.
