ROSSBURG, Ohio — C.J. Leary will start from the pole position during Saturday night’s 40th 4-Crown Nationals Presented By NKTELCO USAC Silver Crown feature at Eldora Speedway.
The Greenfield, Ind., native turned the quickest lap during Friday night’s Fatheadz Eyewear Qualifying session with a time of 17.288 seconds around the half-mile dirt oval in his Klatt Enterprises/Wilwood Disc Brakes – Lucas Oil – Brown & Miller Racing Solutions/Beast/Ford.
For Leary, it was his seventh career USAC Silver Crown pole position and his second at Eldora after earlier starting from the top spot in June of 2021. It was his 11th overall quick time during the 2022 season between USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship (8) and Silver Crown (3) competition, most among all drivers.
The 2018 Eldora 4-Crown USAC Silver Crown race winner led the field of 29 with Jake Swanson second, Logan Seavey third, Kaylee Bryson fourth and current series point leader Kody Swanson fifth.
Two incidents occurred during the evening with 2013 and 2016 Eldora Silver Crown winner Chris Windom pounding the turn one wall and barrel-rolling several times during practice. Buddy Kofoid slapped the wall in turn four on the second lap of his qualifying run, damaging both the right front and right rear. Both drivers walked away under their own power.
