PERRIS, Calif. — Matt Mitchell was the class of the field in winning Saturday’s season opener for the USAC-CRA Sprint Car Series at Perris Auto Speedway.
Mitchell was the fast qualifier for the 27-car field, started sixth in the feature event and led the final 14 laps en route to victory at the half-mile dirt track.
Mitchell held off David Gasper, who started ninth, to win the 30-lap event.
Early leader Ricky Lewis finished third, with polesitter R.J. Johnson and 12th-starting Charles Davis Jr. rounding out the top five.
