PITTSBORO, Ind. — Davey Hamilton Jr. will drive for Legacy Autosport in two USAC Silver Crown events this season, the team announced Tuesday.
Hamilton will pilot the No. 19 Metalloid 1, Ackerman Toyota, Legacy Autosport Chassis, USAC Silver Crown car at Toledo (Ohio) Speedway (Aug 5) and World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Ill. (Aug 27).
Among his accomplishments, Hamilton has multiple pavement wing sprint car wins along with being a King of the Wings Western Sprint Car Series champion. He has successfully run midgets, non-wing sprint cars, Silver Crown, Stadium Super Trucks and Indy NXT.
“I am extremely honored to get the opportunity to drive for Legacy Autosport,” Hamilton said. “This is a team that doesn’t take short cuts and I am looking forward to progressing with them. When the conversations started to arise, I knew this would be something I could not turn down.
“Not only does it give me a program to be focused on, but it also helps my dad’s team focus on their program.”
Hamilton has competed for his father, former Indianapolis 500 starter Davey Hamilton, for the past two seasons.
“I am ready to jump in the car this weekend at Toledo and see what we can do,” Hamilton said. “I can’t thank Mike (Meyer, owner) and the entire Legacy Autosport team enough for the opportunity! I also want to say thank you to my partner Ackerman Toyota St. Louis for there continued support in my career.”
“All of us on the team are excited to get to the track and get working with Davey,” Meyer said. “He has shown he has the speed and the patience to compete at the top of this series and I feel with the right preparation he can be there at the end for a win and continue to showcase what our new chassis is capable of.”
