SPEEDWAY, Ind. – Shane Golobic, who raced to the Indiana Midget Week title in 2017, will chase the Indiana Midget Week title again on June 4-9.
Golobic will pilot the Matt Wood Racing No. 17w sponsored by the Hangtown 100, the high-dollar, two-night USAC NOS Energy National and Western States Midget event on Nov. 19-20 at California’s Placerville Speedway.
Golobic, of Fremont, Calif., won the Indiana Midget Week title two years ago on the strength of consistency, finishing sixth at Montpelier, eighth at Gas City, sixth at Lincoln Park, third at Bloomington, fourth at Lawrenceburg and second in the finale at Kokomo to win the championship by six points. He joins 2007 Indiana Midget Week titlist Jerry Coons Jr. as the two past champs expected to compete for the Indiana Midget Week crown next week.
The lone USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget victory for Golobic came in the 2016 season opener, indoors at the Southern Illinois Center in DuQuoin, Ill. where he captured the inaugural Shamrock Classic. That same year, he competed in his first Indiana Midget Week, finishing 10th in the Indiana Midget Week standings.
Golobic, who earned a degree in mechanical engineering from San Jose State University, has a racing resume that includes victories with the USAC Western States Midget (on both pavement and dirt) and the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series, as well as a runner-up finish in the 2017 USAC National Midget standings and a sweep of the midget portion of the Louie Vermeil Classic in 2018 at California’s Calistoga Speedway.
