PUTNAMVILLE, Ind. – Emerson Axsom led all 20 laps for his first full midget victory and first win with Petry Motorsports during Saturday’s USAC Midwest Regional Midget Series opener at Lincoln Park Speedway.
Axsom led all 20 laps of the feature and held off Jason McDougal in the closing stages to earn the top accolades, an impressive drive by the 15-year-old from nearby Franklin, Ind.
The win came one night after Axsom finished as the runner-up at Lincoln Speedway.
McDougal came home as the runner up, followed by Chett Gherke, Chris Baue and another teenager in Hayden Reinbold.
Jacob Denney, Billy Lawless, Adam Taylor, Justin Dickerson and Gunnar Lucius filled out the top 10 at the checkered flag.
The race was a combined event for the USAC Midwest Regional Midgets and the USAC Midwest Thunder Speed2 Midget Series. Denny was credited as the D-2 class winner.
Axsom, Reinbold and Stratton Briggs won qualifying heat races to start the night. Briggs finished 23rd overall and 13th among the D-2 combatants.
