PERRIS, Calif. — Charles Davis Jr. prevailed from a heated battle with R.J. Johnson to win Saturday night’s USAC-CRA Sprint Car Series feature at Perris Auto Speedway.
Davis started outside the front row and led the first 16 laps of the half-mile oval, but Johnson took the point on lap 17.
While Johnson led the middle stages of the race, Davis was never far behind. He regained the lead from Johnson on lap 27 and led the final four laps for the victory.
Johnson came home second, with Austin Williams, point leader Tommy Malcolm and Austin Grabowski completing the top five.
