INDIANAPOLIS — Abacus Racing will make its USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget debut during the BC39 at The Dirt Track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway Aug. 18-19, fielding the No. 57 entry for driver Maria Cofer.
Established by Brent Cox, the team is headquartered in Indianapolis and will be sponsored by Cox, Beckman, Goss & Company, Indy Custom Stone, Ambre Blends and Viva Tia Maria.
At just 22 years old, Cofer has already established herself as a driver to watch. Her list of accomplishments includes securing back-to-back BCRA championships (2017 and ’18) and currently being tied for most USAC main event wins at Petaluma (CA) Speedway.
“I can’t wait to get back to the dirt track at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on August 18,” said Cofer. “Brent [Cox] has put together a great team and I’m really looking forward to our first race. This is a great opportunity and it will be exciting to see how the team develops in our first year. We’re running several races this season with Abacus Racing and I certainly think we’ll be a force to contend with right away.”
Abacus Racing also plans to run the last seven races in this year’s USAC National Midget Series. The livery and sponsorship announcements and specific plans for those races will be coming after its debut at the BC39.
“We’re really looking forward to the team’s first race in two weeks at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway,” said Cox. “I couldn’t think of a better backdrop to make my official foray into being a team owner than at this historic track. We’ve been able to put together a great team with great sponsors and I think Maria is going to be an ideal fit with our program. We’re definitely excited to see what she can do behind the wheel and the BC39 should be a lot of fun.”
