Sarff Sets Sail In Illinois Speedweek Opener

MATTOON, Ill. — Karter Sarff nearly dominated the entire night en route to his fourth career feature victory during the opening night of POWRi Illinois Speedweek at Coles County Speedway.

Joe B. Miller and Zach Daum shared the front row with the main event with Miller taking the lead followed by Daum, Cannon McIntosh, Sarff and Tyler Edwards.

McIntosh grabbed the lead on lap five with Miller and Sarff in tow.

Taking the top spot on a daring slider in turns one and two, Sarff went to the front on lap eight. He set the pace as the laps ticked away quickly.

Holding steady out front, Sarff would not be denied in his first feature win on the season with outstanding action following the leader as Kale Drake and McIntosh swapped positions nearly every lap with McIntosh placing runner-up and Drake finalizing the podium placements.

“This track was fun tonight with a treacherous curb that could be tricky, very happy to hang on tonight for the win,” said Sarff. “Hopefully, we can keep this momentum going for the rest of the week at what feels like home tracks to me.”

Gavin Miller raced from 14th to finish fourth, while Jake Neuman was fifth.
