PLACERVILLE, Calif. — Shane Golobic won both the midget and sprint car features at the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night.
With rainy weather in the area, the Fremont, California ace drove the Matt Woods Racing entries pulling double duty on the historic red clay oval for Dads and Grads Night.
Golobic led the POWRi-BCRA Midget Series from green to checkered after starting from the pole. Robert Dalby claimed the second spot over Jake Morgan. Twelve cars stated the 20-lap main event with eight cars surviving until the finish.
The 25-lap sprint car saw Golobic take the lead from Andy Forsberg on the lap 15 when he pulled a turn 1 slide job. He led the remaining 10 laps with much of a challenge. Forsberg would bring his F & F Racing No. X1 home in the runner up spot. It was Tony Gualda and Kalib Henry who put on a show for the large crowd, each taking turns running in the third spot. It would be Gualda who would prevail in his No. 7c.
The feature started with Jimmy Trulli and CJ Humphries on the front row. The field would only make it to the fourth turn before the red would come out for a tip over by Bubba DeCaries who ran into the spun car of Tanner Carrick. Both cars would rejoin the race.
The race saw its share of yellow flags, the most costly was on lap four when Humphries spun off the second turn while leading the event. Each slow down seemed to benefit Golobic who started eighth in the 20-car field.
A healthy 32 cars signed into the pits with Gualda setting fast time.
