BELLEVILLE, Ill. – Fifteen-year-old Emerson Axsom has been turning heads recently and he’s hoping to continue doing that by claiming the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League Rookie of the Year crown.
Axsom is a second-generation driver. He started racing quarter midgets at the age of five before moving on to micro sprints, TQ midgets and midgets. While only being 15 years old, Axsom has quite the list of accomplishments.
With 150 wins in a quarter midgets, two national championships and more than 35 wins in the micro, Axsom wants to continue adding to his list of accolades.
This year got off to a slow start, but Axsom came in at full force. Emerson joined forces with Scott Petry and Petry Motorsports at the beginning of the year, and in their first outing Axsom brought home a second-place finish at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Mo.
“This year has been pretty good, some ups and some downs, but overall pretty good,” said Axsom.
“I plan to run the full POWRi schedule with a limited amount of USAC shows,” Axsom continued. “This year I plan to accomplish seat time and learn a lot. Next year I want to be ready to run the full year with USAC and POWRi.”
Axsom sits seventh in the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League title chase and recently earned a runner-up finish in USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget Series competition at Nebraska’s Jefferson County Speedway.
Axsom will be in action July 31-Aug. 2 when the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League embarks upon Speed Weekend in Illinois, with events at Jacksonville Speedway, Macon Speedway and Lincoln Speedway.
Fans will be able to watch all the action live via SPEED SPORT TV affiliate POWRi TV.
