ALLEN, Texas — Bobby Marshall, a veteran sprint car driver who finished second in the 1980 Knoxville Nationals, has died.Â
He was 69 years old.
Marshall, a native of Allen, Texas, raced sprint cars regionally for years. He was one of the drivers who tackled World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series tour in the early 1980s, finishing 16th in the series standings in 1981 and 18th in ’82.
He was most recognizable for his time spent driving the Blue Max No. 19 sprint car that was owned by his father, Bob Marshall, which is what he drove to a runner-up finish to Steve Kinser in the 1980 Knoxville Nationals at Iowa’s Knoxville Raceway.Â
While he never won a World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series feature, he did win a preliminary feature during the 1982 East Bay Raceway Park Southern Sprint Nationals.Â
The Marshall name continues to be active in racing today, with his cousin Richard Marshall acting as co-owner of the Clauson Marshall Racing sprint car and midget team as well as the co-owner of the Stenhouse Jr. Marshall Racing World of Outlaws program.
We’re saddened to learn of of Bobby Marshall’s passing this morning.
