HAUBSTADT, Ind. – Kevin Thomas Jr. was victorious Saturday night in the running of the ninth annual Hoosier Sprint Nationals at Tri-State Speedway.
Thomas started on the pole of the 40 lap main event and led every lap. The field thinned out behind him and most of those in pursuit watched him speed away on the restarts. That is all but one.
Chase Stockon also had a strong engine and put together a well timed challenge. He had been sitting in second spot since lap 10 after starting eighth. Stockon closed in by lap 38 and then unleashed a slider in turn one that was perfectly executed. Thomas immediately countered the move and the two began exchanging the lead over and over. Thomas had the lead back as the two crossed the line those final two laps.
The victory was number three on the MSCS circuit this season for Thomas. Chase Stockon’s runner-up finish was his best finish so far this season. Blake Fitzpatrick finished third. Veteran Jon Stanbrough moved up through the pack to finish fourth followed by Wes McIntyre.
