HANOVER, Pa. – Trail-Way Speedway is expected to cease operations after 49 years of dirt-track racing.
Owners Barry, Brad and Perry Hostetter confirmed the sale of the one-third-mile clay oval and 232-acre property to Circle Oak Farm in nearby Hanover in a social media post on Monday.
A speedway official confirmed the buyer doesn’t intend to continue auto racing at the speedway founded by Armin Hostetter in 1972.
“We want to thank all of our loyal race teams, fans, employees and sponsors who have supported Trail-Way Speedway for the last 49 years and hope you will support our decision,” the Hostetter family said in a statement. “You have been a big part of our lives and have helped make many memories that we will continue to cherish and share for years to come.”
Trail-Way had stood as one of 14 weekly dirt tracks in Central Pennsylvania, running regular programs for 358ci sprints, 600 micro sprints, 270 micro sprints, limited stocks, street stocks and legends this past year.
Current 410 racer Billy Dietrich won the track’s first 358 winged sprint car race in May 2001.
Since then Trail-Way has helped develop World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series winners Logan Schuchart, Jacob Allen and Danny Dietrich.
Chase Dietz, Matt Campbell, Robbie Kendall, Jeff Halligan and Kyle Moody have all won at Trail-Way before moving to 410 competition as members of the Pennsylvania Posse.
Brad McClleland reigns as the track’s 358 all-time winner with 48 victories.
All four of the winter shows organized by the Hostetter family, including Motorama Races and Show held in Harrisburg, Pa. each February, have not been sold and will continue to run under Motorama Productions Inc.
