MEEKER, Okla. — Opening the season with 86 entries at Red Dirt Raceway’s Micro Meltdown presented by MelMark Pipe and Supply on Saturday night, Shawn Mahaffey, Chelby Hinton, Carson Bolden topped action with the Dirt2Media National Open Wheel 600 Series presented by Hi-Plains Building Division.
The seventh driver to earn wins in all three NOW600 National divisions, Shawn Mahaffey fought off the opening lap charge of Johnny Boland and kept pace from there to win the tour’s 150th A-Class A-feature event. Boland held on for second, with Kale Drake taking the final podium step. Moving from seventh, Frank Flud crossed fourth with J.J. Loss fifth.
Career win No. 9 for the 2021 NOW600 National Non-Wing Champion Chelby Hinton took the green from the right of the front row and proceeded to lead all 20 laps. Chased the distance by Chris Cochran, the McLoud, Okla., shoe would have to settle for a runner-up performance, with Seth Shebester earning the bronze. Battling throughout the event for fourth and fifth, the team cars crossed with Corbin Rueschenberg ahead of Kale Drake.
Leading start to finish in Restricted competition, Carson Bolden made it win No. 4 with the Dirt2Media National Open Wheel 600 Series. Stalked by Jett Nunley, the No. 33 closed down on the No. B2 a few times through the 20-lap affair, but never closed enough to challenge. Chase McDougal, Braxton Weger, and Cale Lagroon completed the top five.
The event was broadcast live by SPEED SPORT affiliate Dirt2Media, which will also present round two of the series on Sunday afternoon.
