Thomas Gets Another Win In Gas City Sprint

GAS CITY, Ind. – Kevin Thomas Jr. has his sprint car program right where he wants it, and he proved that Wednesday night at Gas City I-69 Speedway by scoring a dominant victory.

Thomas passed polesitter Brady Bacon on lap two of the 25-lap non-winged sprint car main event, held as the undercard to Indiana Midget Week, and never looked back after that.

The Cullman, Ala., driver led the rest of the way and took the checkered flag in front by 1.332 seconds.

It was Thomas’ second win in two nights and third in his last four non-winged sprint car appearances.

“I like this place, especially when the track conditions get where they were tonight, where you’re rim-riding around the top. That’s where I’m the most comfortable,” Thomas told SPEED SPORT. “I knew I had Brady behind me and I know where his cars work at, and he’s really good at rolling the bottom, so that did make me a little nervous on the restarts. I didn’t let it get to me, though; you can’t in that situation.

“I saw him a couple of times, but after we got our momentum up, I didn’t know where he was … as far as whether he tucked in behind me or stayed on the bottom,” Thomas added. “I just stuck with what I was doing, and it worked out. We had a nice cushion and our line never went away, fortunately.”

Bacon, who started from the top spot and led the opening lap before Thomas took command, crossed the line in second ahead of Max Adams, Corey Smith and Thomas Meseraull.

Tim Creech, Scotty Weir, Lee Underwood, Cole Ketcham and Brandon Rose completed the top 10.

Justin Grant won the headlining Indiana Midget Week main event.
