Tarlton Tabs Bayston For King Of The West Title Run

FRESNO, Calif. – Spencer Bayston will join Tarlton Motorsports to chase the NARC-King of the West Fujitsu 410 Sprint Car Series championship in the No. 21 sprint car.

“I am very grateful for the opportunity the Tarlton family, and Tarlton Motorsports has provided me to get back into a racecar fulltime in 2020,” Bayston said. “Getting to work with Paul Baines and Tyrone Tyra will give me the chance to compete at a high level as well as a chance to compete for the pure enjoyment of racing.”

The team is set to run a very busy schedule with the former USAC National Midget Series champion. Focusing on the 19-race King of the West Series slate, Tarlton Motorsports and Bayston will also battle the World of Outlaws when they come into California, and will fill the schedule with various winged 360, non-winged and midget events as their schedule allows.

“We are really excited to work with Spencer Bayston in 2020 and run a lot of races,” said Tarlton Motorsports Crew Chief Paul Baines. “He has a lot of talent, and we look forward to seeing what he can do in unfamiliar territory against unfamiliar competition. It should be a lot of fun.”

Winning the USAC National Midget Championship in 2017, Bayston would also compete in winged 410 sprint car races as his schedule allowed over the years. In 2019 he turned his focus primarily to winged 410 sprint cars.

“I am looking forward to the challenge of racing at new tracks, and battling with new drivers,” Bayston added. “Surrounding myself with an already accomplished group of people and race team, I am confident I will have everything I need to go out and be successful.”

With Bayston taking over the primary driving duties for the team in 2020, Fresno, CA driver Steven Kent will also get some seat time in the Tarlton Motorsports entry. With his father, Steve, recovering from offseason back surgery, Kent will pilot a Tarlton Motorsports entry in a couple local shows early in the season until moving back to his family team.

“I really appreciate Tom, Tommy, and the entire Tarlton Motorsports crew giving me a great opportunity to race while my dad continues to heal,” Kent said. “I am excited, and plan on making the most of this opportunity by driving flat out the Tarlton way.”
