PLACERVILLE, Calif. – Justyn Cox won the 25-lap 360 sprint car feature at Placerville Speedway on Sunday night.
In a rare Sunday night show, Cox led every lap in his black No. 7C mount.
Justin Sanders dogged Cox for most of the race, but was only able to slide job the leader once in the second turn without making the pass stick. The Aromas, Calif., driver had to settle for the runner-up spot in his Mann Construction No. 35M. Third-place went to polesitter Tanner Carrick in his No. 83T. Rounding out the top-five were Dominic Scelzi and Kalib Henry.
Carrick and Cox brought the 20-car field down for the start, with Cox quickly taking the lead with a bold move around the top of Carrick.
Cox would set a torrid pace around the quarter-mile red clay oval at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds. Right before he would catch slower traffic, the red flag would come out for a Michael Ing flipping off the first turn banking. Ing climbed out of his car uninjured, but his night was over.
The restart provided Cox with a clear track for a short while until he again caught the tail of the field on lap 14. The field would bunch up one final time when rookie Issiah Vasquez stopped high in the fourth turn on lap 21. Up until then, Cox had set a fast pace and did a masterful job of working the slower traffic.
Once restarted, Cox wouldn’t be denied of a well-deserved victory on his home track.
Thirty-six cars made qualifying attempts with Andy Gregg setting the overall fast time.
