PLYMOUTH, Wis. — Three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Tony Stewart had to fight off multiple-time Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Car Series champion Bill Balog to win Saturday night’s IRA event at the Plymouth Dirt Track.
Stewart swept the program, but had to deal with Balog during the closing laps. Balog took the lead from Stewart with two laps remaining, but the pair raced side by side on the final lap with Stewart beating Balog to the checkered flag by a single car length.
Stewart climbed to the back of his car to thunderous approval from the crowd and the victory celebration began. As victory lane ceremonies got underway even more thunder took over, as approaching storms which had been threatening the race program all evening finally arrived at the raceway with a downpour which would eventually cancel the main event for the 360 sprints which were also on hand.
Balog came home second with Tommy Sexton, Jeremy Schultz and Steve Meyer rounding out the top five.
