GRANBY, Quebec – Shane Stewart pocketed $5,000 for his victory in the inaugural Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints Can-Am Challenge Saturday night at Autodrome Granby.
Stewart, driving the Scott McClaren-owned sprinter, bypassed Quebec native and fast timer Alain Bergeron on lap 13 and never looked back at the half-mile dirt oval.
“This was fun, to come up here for the first time and have a good weekend. I’m just happy for the whole team.” said Stewart. “He (Bergeron) got a little better jump on me on that second restart but I just waited it out a bit as I knew lapped cars would figure into the event. Thirty laps is a longer race so it was bound to happen.”
Lance Yonge, Bryan Howland and Jamie Collard completed the top five behind Stewart and Bergeron.
