INVERNESS, Fla. — 2021 BG Products Southern Sprint Car Shootout Series champion Sport Allen has confirmed he will be participating in the March 2 Children’s Dream Fund 50 at Citrus County Speedway.
The $5,000 to win, 50-lap event will pit the SSSS against the Must See Racing Sprint Series Presented by Perfit.
The Childrens Dream Fund 50 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated pavement sprint car events seen in Florida in many years. Nearly 30 cars are expected for this race and the Pinellas Park, Florida resident Allen knows he will have his work cut out for him if he is to have success in this event.
“When I first heard about this race, and who was coming, the first thing I thought was it’s gonna be tougher, a lot tougher,” laughed Allen. “We just switched to the American Racer tires, and they (MSR) have been running them for a while. We’re struggling.
“But I’m glad this race is paying a little extra money. Hopefully these guys can work together, and we can put some more events on in the future if this goes well.”
“I’m excited to run against some new guys, but I don’t know those guys,” he continued. “It’s a catch 22. I don’t know if they have good habits, bad habits, or how they race. I just don’t know that many of them.”
Citrus County Speedway is a track that Allen has won at in the past.
“Believe it or not, I’ve won one or two features there, but that was way back when,” Allen said. “I am always right there and then something always happens. It’s been going on for a while there lately. We were really, really, good there for a stint. Then I didn’t run there for a while after that.
“That was back during the TBARA days. Then when I came back, I didn’t have any mojo, I was terrible there. We figured it out, but we quit running there so much util recently.”
With the number of cars this race could draw, and the quality of the cars, Allen was asked what it would take for him to have a successful Children’s Dream Fund 50’
“At least a top three I would think. At least a chance to be one of the guys who stops on the straightway and thank your sponsors. That would make me happy,” concluded Allen.
