TULSA, Okla. – Colby Sokol, Jeffrey Newell and Garrett Benson kicked off the fifth annual Oil Capital Clash in style by visiting victory lane on Thursday at Port City Raceway.
The trio of competitors registered their first Lucas Oil National Open Wheel 600 Series presented by Hi-Plains Building Division feature triumph of the season in the division they topped on the opening night of the three-night event. Each division had at least 39 entrants as the three premier series divisions accounted for a season-high 120 entrants.
Sokol earned his first NOW600 Series victory by hustling from sixth to win the Stock Non-Wing A Main. Daniel Shaffer advanced from 15 th to second with Garth Kasiner, Johnny Boland and Connor Lee rounding out the top five, respectively.
Kasiner, Brian Bennett, Frank Flud, Trey Zorn and Brody Mclaughlin each won a heat race. Shaffer and Kyle Thompson were the B Main winners.
Newell posted his third career Winged ‘A’ Class victory with the series, which is tied for third on the all-time triumph list. Josh Marcham hustled from eighth to second place with Trey Robb finishing third, Flud fourth and Laydon Pearson fifth.
Marcham, Thompson, Cole Roberts, Sokol and Robb recorded heat race wins. Gavin Miller and Kasiner split the B Mains.
Benson moved into sole possession of third place on the NOW600 Series Restricted ‘A’ Class victory chart with his seventh career trip into the Winner’s Circle. Corbin Rueschenberg rallied from 13th to second with Cole Vanderheiden placing third, Jett Nunley fourth and Braxston Wilson fifth.
Jaxton Wiggs, Benson, Nunley, Wilson and Vanderheiden posted heat race triumphs. Chase McDougal and Hayden Mabe each won a B Main.
