ORRVILLE, Ohio — There’s little doubt Jordan Ryan grew up attending races during Ohio Sprint Speedweek and eventually got to participate in a few.
Now the 27-year-old from Bellevue, Ohio, can call himself an Ohio Sprint Speedweek winner.
Ryan led all 30 laps Monday at Wayne County Speedway to win night four of the 42nd annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek under the Ti22 Performance FAST On Dirt Series banner and claiming the $5,000 top prize.
“Unbelievable. We had an awesome car all night,” Ryan said. “My dad, Matt and Bechtel had this thing on rails. We came into this one with it circled on our calendar and knew we had to perform at our home track. I love this team that I’m surrounded by and wouldn’t want it any other way. I also cannot thank all of our partners enough for allowing us to do this. I’m sure it will take awhile to sink in and still feels unreal to get a Speedweek win. I’m excited to get back Friday at Millstream.”
Ryan, the 2018 Wayne County Speedway champion, scored a win at the track in April, started alongside of defending track champion Tyler Gunn for the 30-lap feature and quickly took command.
Gunn challenged early but contact with the turn two wall ended his run on lap six. Only a pair of cautions halted Ryan’s march to victory, but he executed perfect restarts to pull away from a tremendous battles for second.
Sunday’s Speedweek winner Cale Thomas took over second when Gunn had his misfortune but Travis Philo drove into the runner-up spot on a lap-17 restart. Zane DeVault came on strong in the closing laps, taking second on the white-flag lap and closed on Ryan, falling just four-tenths of a second at the checkers.
Philo, Thomas and Darin Naida completed the top five.
