KNOXVILLE, Iowa — The 34th Xtream powered by Medicacom 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank kicks off Thursday night at Knoxville Raceway with two winners of the prestigious event in the field.
With 107 cars entered and split between the two nights, five-time 360 Nationals winner Terry McCarl and 2002 winner Aaron Reutzel will lead the field for the first night of competition.
The two preliminary night features pay $3,000 to the winner, while Saturday’s main event will pay $20,000 to win, plus $500 per lap led, making it possible for the race winner to earn as much as $35,000.
McCarl will drive the No. 01 machine that he’s driven weekly at the half-mile track. McCarl’s first 360 Nationals victory came in 1996 and his most recent was in 2018.
Reutzel, will guide the Ridge & Sons No. 87 machine, which he has driven to five victories at Knoxville this summer.
Among the other contenders will be Knoxville Raceway regulars Chase Randall, Garet Williamson, Austin McCarl and Justin Henderson.
Driving Troy Renfro’s No. 2ks, Randall has been a winner in 410 and 360 competition at Knoxville this season, while Williamson has three 410 sprint car wins this season, including one at Knoxville.
McCarl, who leads the points in the 410 division, will join his dad, Terry, in the field on Thursday night as he chases his first 360 Nationals triumph. Henderson is a past winner in both sprint car classes at Knoxville.
High Limit Racing regular Justin Peck will compete, while Emerson Axsom, who won the July 27 360 feature at Knoxville, will also be in the field, driving Tucker Klaasmeyer’s No. 27. Both drivers are also entered in next week’s Knoxville Nationals.
Three more drivers taking on the 360 Nationals one week ahead of the 63rd running of the Knoxville Nationals are California’s Cole Macedo, Pennsylvania’s Danny Dietrich and Missouri’s Hunter Schuerenberg. All have been frequent winners in 410 sprint cars this season.
American Sprint Car Series veterans Seth Bergman, Blake Hahn and Matt Covington are all chasing their first 360 Nationals victories, and will be in action on Thursday.
