MECHANICSBURG, Pa. — Lance Dewease kept his streak of top-five finishes alive last Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway.
A runner-up finish to Anthony Macri marked Dewease’s 11th straight top-five effort. It’s also his third consecutive second-place finish and fifth straight podium finish.
The National Sprint Car Hall of Famer is closing on his seventh career Williams Grove track championship, too, boasting an 820-point lead over Freddie Rahmer with six races remaining.
If Dewease secures the title, it’ll be his first since he won his sixth championship driving Donny Owens’ No. 30c machine in 2011.
Meanwhile, Dewease and the Kreitz Racing team are preparing for the month of money in Central Pennsylvania.
After fighting recent engine gremlins, Dewease and crew debuted a different car and engine combination at Williams Grove. It’s the car they will race in the majority of upcoming big-money races.
“We wanted to make sure we don’t have any problems [with the car] for next week,” Dewease said.
Dewease will race Williams Grove Speedway on Friday with the All Star Circuit of Champions and a $5,000-to-win show at Selinsgrove Speedway on Saturday in preparation for the track’s National Open on Saturday, Sept. 25
• The first of four All Star Circuit of Champions races in Central Pennsylvania this weekend is Thursday at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville.
Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown and BAPS Motor Speedway in Susquehanna round out the swing on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
• Three drivers hope to take advantage of pinch-hit opportunities this weekend.
J.J. Grasso, the New Jersey veteran known to get the best out of his equipment, is racing the Sam McGhee Motorsports No. 11 in all four races as Spencer Bayston attends his sister’s wedding.
Ian Madsen, coming off finishes of 13th and 10th in his first weekend subbing for an injured Paul McMahan, fills in the CJB Motorsports No. 5 once again.
Parker Price-Miller will be the fourth driver of the season in the Swindell SpeedLab No. 39.
• In the middle of his breakout year that’s supported by nine wins and two triumphs with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Sprint Car Series, Brent Marks took last weekend off.
The 30-year-old driver has worked nonstop since reviving his No. 19 family car in late April, claiming to have not taken a full day off until this past week.

• Freddie Rahmer went for a vicious ride over the turn-one guardrail at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday.
Contact with Devon Borden sent the 25-year-old flipping wildly and out of eye’s view when his No. 51 left the racing surface.
Rahmer walked away from the incident and finished 23rd the following night at Lincoln Speedway.
