MECHANICSBURG, Pa. — Longtime Central Pennsylvania sprint car owner Joe Harz died over the weekend.
Harz’s familiar, yellow No. 88h sprint car was a fixture on the Pennsylvania Posse circuit through portions of three decades.
Harz’s cars scored 169 victories, including 41 at Williams Grove Speedway.
He claimed the Williams Grove track championship with Lance Dewease in 2001 and with Fred Rahmer in 2004 and 2005.
“Our racing family has lost another great car owner, Joe Harz,” wrote Dewease on social media. “Please keep Peggy, Nick & Chuck in your thoughts & prayers!”
Harz’s death came only days after the passing of Walter Dyer, another longtime Pennsylvania team owner.
Kramer Williamson, Richard Lupo, Kenny Adams, Sean Michael and Wagner were also among drivers of Harz’s potent machines.
