Non-Winged Sprint Cars Returning To Winchester

WINCHESTER, Ind. – Winchester Speedway officials have confirmed that non-winged sprint car racing will return to the high-banked, half-mile oval this season.

The Auto Value Bumper to Bumper Super Sprints will invade Winchester on Sunday, June 23, as part of the introduction of non-winged racing to the 410ci series’ arsenal.

Plans call for an $8,000-to-win, 40-lap feature during Old Timers’ Weekend at the historic facility, with the Winchester Speedway Old Timers’ Club also making an appearance during the weekend festivities.

Vintage race cars and the ICAR Thunder Roadsters will serve as support to the sprints during the event weekend.

Tracy Hines won the most recent non-winged sprint car event at Winchester Speedway, a USAC Pavement Sprint Car Series-sanctioned feature held eight years ago under the Rich Vogler Classic nameplate.

On Sept. 18, 2011, Hines set the fast time in qualifying at 14.015 seconds before taking the lead from polesitter Bobby East on lap 13 of the 30-lap main event. Hines then led the rest of the way to capture the checkered flag.

East, Chris Windom and Kody Swanson completed the top four finishers.

A young Kyle Larson also competed in that non-winged sprint car feature, driving a No. 67 entry for Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports. Larson crossed fifth after winning his heat race.
