WARRNAMBOOL, Australia – James McFadden claimed his first Max’s Race victory Saturday with a commanding performance on the challenging Premier Speedway surface that welcomed race cars for the first time since a recent resurfacing.
McFadden set quick time in his qualifying group and placed third in his heat. A blisteringly quick lap of 10.356 second during the Gold Shoot-out ensured he would start on the front row of the feature.
From there he was never challenged as he lead home Tate Frost, a young Tasmanian who was snapping at McFadden’s heels multiple times only to be thwarted by a series of cautions and red flags.
Daniel Pestka was third, followed by Jamie Veal and Jake Smith.
The victory gives McFadden an early lead in the Total Tools Warrnambool $10,000-to-win track championship presented by Fitz Media and The Midfield Group.
In the late model class, Shane Belk drove to victory ahead of Brendan Hucker and Peter Nicola. Rusty Ponting won the Junior Formula 500 feature.
