MILFORD, Pa. – Car owners John and Karen Matrafailo are transitioning to the 410 sprint car division in Central Pennsylvania with driver Kyle Smith.
“We have had great success in the 305 division,” said team co-owner John Matrafailo. “It’s now time for us to full-fill the dream and transition our team into the premier 410 division.”
The team plans to compete for Rookie of the Year honors at Port Royal (Pa.) Speedway.
The Matrafailos and Smith had a very successful campaign last year in the 305 sprint car division. Smith piloted the No. 17 to victory lane seven times, including wins at Port Royal, Williams Grove, Path Valley, BAPS, Clinton County and Grandview.
Smith won the track championships at Port Royal Speedway and Path Valley Speedway. He finished the season as the runner up in the PA Sprint Series points standings. In the IMCA Racing Series for sprint cars, Smith finished ninth in the national standings and was ranked second in the state of Pennsylvania.
“I’m thankful for this opportunity from the Matrafailos and our sponsors to be able to compete weekly at Port Royal Speedway,” said Smith. “The competition at Port Royal is always stellar and I look forward to this next step in my racing career.”
